Occupational Health and Safety

Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) deals with all aspects of health and safety in the workplace and has a strong focus on primary prevention of hazards. Its goal is to prevent accidents and harm to people from work-related activities (International Organisation of Employers, n.d.). The scope of occupational health and safety is broad, encompassing disciplines from hazardous materials and the spread of disease to ergonomics and violence prevention. Measures also touch work environments ranging from construction sites to office buildings. Today, with the exception of self-employed people working on a relative’s farm, all employers—both private and public—have a legal responsibility to establish and maintain a safe and healthy environment (Correl, 2022).
